The face of Hampshire College SJP

Working on a profile about Students for Justice in Palestine, the Hampshire College group who wrestled a divestment from companies that profit from Israeli occupation, much to Alan Dershowitz's dismay. Is this the thin end of the wedge?

Unity on the streets of Denver

There was an amazing rally this evening in at the Democratic National Convention led by the Iraq Veterans to stop the War. Followed by about 3000 protestors, the group marched to the Pepsi Center to read a letter to Senator Obama they call "Three Points of Unity." These are: Immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, full health and mental health benefits to returning veterans and reparations to the Iraqi people.

Ron Kovic, a vietnam vet whose story was told in "Born on the Fourth of July," was there to support the younger vets.

Officer Jeff Key read the letter out loud, afterward asking repeatedly, "Can I talk to someone from his campaign staff? One of you must have a way to get him this message."

They stood in silence as the media pressed against them. The police, heavily armed, some in cherry pickers threatened to tear gas the group if they didn't disperse. "Let the veterans of the global war on terror have their say, and if they want to throw me in jail," yelled Key from a megaphone "I'll sing the star-spangled banner from there."

Almost an hour passed before someone from Senator Obama's office called (after being contacted, reportedly through live feed on television) and promised to set up a meeting with the group. A thrill went through the crowd, veterans, media, supporters, sort of stunned onlookers, everyone was electrified. "Yes we can, yes we can, " some started to chant.

Cover of The Sun, July 2008

See one of my photographs on the cover of The Sun Magazine, July 2008 issue.

The cover photograph was shot at Natural Roots, a seven-acre organic farm in Conway, Massachusetts. The farm’s owners, Anna and David, use draft horses to plow their fields, and they provide vegetables to 175 families through their csa (community-supported agriculture) program. They are pictured at the sink of one of the small cabins used by their interns.
