The face of Hampshire College SJP

Working on a profile about Students for Justice in Palestine, the Hampshire College group who wrestled a divestment from companies that profit from Israeli occupation, much to Alan Dershowitz's dismay. Is this the thin end of the wedge?

That end of the wedge is mighty thin indeed, given that Hampshire is now synonymous with student activists willing to tell blatant untruths in the name of the school they attend in order to further their own narrow agenda.

I find it interesting that even after the administration has stated again and again that the school has NOT divested in Israel, even after a long review of its investment portfolio, SJP kids continue to insist that Hampshire has done what clearly did not do. (Perhaps invoking the Dershowitz bogeyman has enabled you to convince yourself that the administration acted out of fear, rather than disgust with SJP's own behavior.)

As chronicled here: www.divestthis.com, SJP's excess has done some good by putting schools across the country on notice that those who are all smiles when asking for something from the school (like divestment) are willing to turn into snarling wolves after they fail to stuff their own words into the administration's mouth.

So way to go Hampshire! Without you, the attempted reincarnation of campus divestment in 2009 might have dragged on for months, rather than becoming a laughingstock before the end of half an academic year.
